Litigation

I have been in litigation since I started practicing law. My experience includes significant and complex litigation as well as simple matters of great significance to the parties. I have extensive experience working with expert witnesses in a variety of substantive areas and I have conducted trials in District Court, County Court, Municipal Court, and a variety of administrative tribunals. I have litigated cases involving a broad range of legal issues, including: water law, real estate, business, personal injury, county and municipal government, divorce & custody, paternity, dependency & neglect, and child support.
I recognize the value of settlement of disputes as an alternative to costly litigation. I also value the judgment of my clients when deciding whether to take a matter to trial. If my client wants to take a matter to trial, I am a fierce advocate in court and a worthy adversary. On the other hand, if my client wants to settle a dispute, I will use my skills and experience to obtain the best settlement possible. I am trained as a mediator and I have represented clients in numerous settlement conferences and mediations.

Appeals

Since serving as a Law Clerk at the Colorado Supreme Court, I have obtained years of experience with appeals, having represented clients in appeals to the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court. I am available to provide both consultation and representation in all aspects of civil appeals.

Real Estate

I have been involved with real estate matters for most of my legal career. I also owned and operated a title insurance agency and conducted hundreds of closings. I am available to prepare and review real estate contracts for either buyers or sellers. I can provide review and advice regarding Title Commitments and Exceptions to Title, including providing guidance and assistance in clearing up clouds on title. I have represented clients with owner carry financing arrangements, and I have experience with quiet title actions and foreclosures.
I have experience drafting, interpreting and enforcing Covenants and I have both formed and represented homeowner associations. I have represented real estate developers, business owners, governmental entities, landlords, tenants and I have been involved in both large scale and small solar power projects. As a former County Attorney, I am very familiar with Zoning and Land Use issues, as well as variances and special use permits

Personal Injury

I have experience representing clients in personal injury cases, ranging in significance from fender benders to the catastrophic injury, and also complex multi-million dollar litigation.

Water Law

I have practiced water law in Colorado for over 25 years, both as an Assistant Attorney General and in private practice, and I have experience in a wide variety of water matters. If you have a water issue, I probably have prior experience with your issue and can help you achieve your goals.

Wills & Probate

I am available to prepare Wills, including a Living Will and Power of Attorney. I have experience with the Probate of Estates, including Ancillary Probates (for non-residents who own property in our beautiful State).

Business

I can prepare documents to form legal business entities, such as corporations and limited liability companies (LLC, Inc., etc.). I have experience assisting clients with the purchase and sale of a business or business assets, as well as representing clients involved in contract disputes.
